2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI Leaked Before Geneva Debut

It might not seem like anyone is looking, but just like being naked with your blinds open, you never know who is peeking at your website.

That’s a lesson someone is likely learning now that images of what looks like the production 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI leaked ahead of the car’s Geneva Motor Show debut through the show’s page as spotted by CarBuzz.

The 2014 production car, assuming this is it, looks almost identical to the design study Volkswagen brought to the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Pieces including the front and rear lights look identical. In fact, the only noticeable change to the exterior is that the alloy wheels, which are styled in the same way, are raked in the opposite direction from the car is Paris.

Interior appointments remain familiar with the same plaid-trimmed seats GTI cult followers have come to love. The steering wheel, center console and center stand all get minor tweaks, but look very similar.

Expect the seventh-generation GTI to be lighter and more nimble than the previous generation. That will likely mean both better handling characteristics and fuel mileage thanks to the brand’s new MQB architecture which underpins the new Golf and Audi A3.

Um, you know why it looks “almost” identical to the concept? Because that IS the lead image of the concept model. See the image below of the VW Media site…

MistyGreen says:

HA!  That’s hilarious.  Autoguide, you were found out far earlier than you anticipated!
