When the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe surfaces in 2016, the German automaker will reportedly revive its CLK moniker for the sporty two-door model.

The next-generation C-Class will actually debut in sedan form next year as a 2015 model year with the coupe model following in 2015. It will be joined by a four-seater convertible which brings back a pattern from the automaker that was interrupted in 2010. Though both variants have been on hold for several months, they received the green light for production in March.

As for what is expected with the next-generation C-Class, it’ll be lighter, sleeker and sportier. The sedan is expected to shed up to 220 pounds in weight and will be available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid form. The German automaker is also promising an even more comprehensive active and passive safety package, a more comfortable ride, and a host of new convenience options.
