Ford CEO Alan Mulally, who is currently in China to help open a factory, believes the country will inevitably become an export hub for the American automaker.

“I think it’s just a matter of time,” Mulally said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. Ford is investing $4.9 billion in China to help catch up with General Motors and the Volkswagen Group.

According to the CEO, the emphasis on China has been working for Ford as it aims to take six percent of China’s market by 2015. The new factory is in the southeastern city of Nanchang, at one of Ford’s Chinese partners, Jiangling Motors Corp. It will add 300,000 vehicles in annual capacity to the existing 245,000 units.
