Toyota EV P002 Poised to Top Pikes Peak Record
After a two-day session of half-course runs in preparation to the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Toyota EV P002 is on course to best its EV record.
Last year, the EV set a record of 10 minutes, 15.380 seconds, and the car has seen vast improvements since. The combined results of each half-course run with Rod Millen behind the wheel indicate that an overall time besting the record is possible at this year’s competition.

Powered by a pair of electric motors, the Toyota EV P002 has been fine tuned to 536 hp and 1,627 lb-ft of torque with a top speed of 143 mph. Since the car arrived to America last month, the team at Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has made aerodynamic and other upgrades to the chassis. Since last year, the race car is not only more powerful but has a three-fold increase in downforce and a new carbon ceramic braking system.
The 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb’s race day is on June 30, 2013.
