2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus Smashes AutoGuide Test Track Lap Record

2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus Smashes AutoGuide Test Track Lap Record

Topping the Camaro ZL1, we have a new fastest lap time at the AutoGuide Test Track and it belongs to the Audi R8 V10 Plus.

Posting a 1:18.449 on the 1.86-mile (3 km) long Toronto Motorsports Park, it was over a second and a half faster than the more powerful Camaro ZL1.

Reviewed by Editor-in-Chief Colum Wood, he commented that, “Perhaps the only thing more astounding than the pull of the V10 engine at high revs, is how amazing it sounds.”

Timed laps, as always, were performed by AutoGuide hot shoe David Pratte, who was perhaps most impressed by the amazingly fast and new-for-2014 R-Tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, referring to it as “Star Wars level shit.”

The R8 V10 Plus is powered by an up-rated 5.2-liter V10 engine making 550 hp, while carbon fiber body components as well as carbon ceramic brakes help shed 130 lbs compared to the standard V10 model.

NOTE: Our original data showed a 1:16.3 lap time using an Aim Sports data acquisition system, though that has been corrected to a 1:18.449. After consulting with AiM, it appears as though the 1:16.3 is a predictive lap time where the software fills out the remainder of the lap based on the best times from previous laps. The car had a “slight” off-track excursion on turn 9 of that lap, meaning a 116.3 is possible, though we didn’t technically achieve it.
