Mercedes GLA Teased by American CEO in Tweet
Mercedes is testing its new small crossover, the GLA, right now in the heat of Death Valley, and a tweet published by the President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz America, Steve Cannon offers us our best look yet at the upcoming crossover.
“Another day In Death Valley! 110 degrees but this new model coming next year will be hotter!” said Cannon in the tweet. Sitting directly behind the GLA is a BMW X1, likely brought along by the folks at Mercedes to provide a benchmark.
The GLA will be built on the German automaker’s front-wheel drive architecture (MFA) that also underpins the A- and B-Class models.

Styling for the GLA also looks to borrow from the A-Class, offering smooth angles and a rounded face.
It is expected to launch sometime in 2014.
