Toyota Global Production to Top 10 Million in 2013
Toyota is expected to reach a production milestone this year by producing over 10 million vehicles.
Riding tailwinds from a weaker yen and strong hybrid demand in Japan, the company will build 10.1 million vehicles this year. The report comes from Japanese newspaper Nikkei, which also said the company is expected to make a global announcement about the plan on Friday.
That total includes vehicles produced by Daihatsu and Hino. Last year, the company sold just under 10 million vehicles to win back its title as the world’s top automaker.
Through the first half of the year, Toyota maintained its position as the highest-selling automaker. It sold 4.91 million units compared to General Motors’ 4.85 million to take second place.
