Commute, Toy or Destroy – C2 Corvette Vs. C3 Corvette Vs. C6 Corvette

We are back with this week’s installment of AutoGuide’s interactive weekly feature ‘Commute, Toy or Destroy’.

Once again, we present to you, our faithful readers, a choice of three vehicles. We are asking you to decide which one you would make your daily driver, which one would become the star of the local car show or track meet, and which one deserves to be launched off a ship into a watery grave.

Remember, that commuter car you must live with every day, all year around. The toy would be only available to you for occasional use on weekends and the final car would be ‘mysteriously stolen’ so you can collect the insurance money to work on the car selected as the toy.

This week we present three vehicles from one family blood line; Corvettes. First, we have the second generation Corvette that brought big block power and sexy new looks to America’s sports car. Next, is the C3 Corvette that lasted in production for a long time thanks in part to the gorgeous exterior. Finally, there is the C6 Corvette that currently has the crown as fastest production Corvette ever.

Chevrolet Corvette C2

The C2 was the first ‘Sting Ray’ Corvette and ushered in a whole new era of style for the ‘Vette, including the 1963-only split rear window coupe. But it wasn’t just a new level of style that the C2 brought to the Corvette linage, it was also performance. With several different versions of the small block and big block V8s, the C2 was able to run with any sports cars in the world during the mid 1960s.

Chevrolet Corvette C3 (1968-1982)

The C3 had the longest run of any generation of Corvette. For those who think this only happened because sports cars fell out of favor in the 1970s and GM couldn’t be bothered to spend money on a Corvette refresh, know that in 1979, 12 years after the C3 went into production, the Corvette achieved its record sales year. The C3 was available with a whole host of engines ranging from a 305 cu. In. V8 right up to the mighty 454 cu. In.

Chevrolet Corvette C6

The C6 brought the Corvette up to level of supercar in the late 2000’s. First there was the awesome 7.0 L, 505 hp Z06. A performance beast in its own right, Chevrolet wasn’t finished pumping the Corvette with ridiculous levels of performance. In 2009, the manufacturer unleashed on the world the 638 hp, 6.2 L supercharged V8 Corvette known as the ZR1. With more rubber than the retaining wall in the Laguna Seca corkscrew, and the trick magnetic ride suspension, the Corvette ZR1 had the handling to back up the serious levels of power.

    Horsepower aside. The 1976 and 1977 c3 corvettes are the best-looking corvettes ever made
