Subaru has just taken the wraps off of the 2015 WRX STI and it is more than just a WRX with a giant wing.

Yes the trademark wing is there, but the car has received substantial inside and out. In all, the STI features a unique hood, fenders, doors, quarter panels, bumpers, headlights and taillight clusters compared to the WRX.

Power will come from the same 2.5-liter turbocharged BOXER engine from the old STI developing the same 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission available is a six-speed manual – the way it should be.

Quicker steering, a stiffened chassis, Subaru’s three mode Intelligent Drive powertrain management system are all upgrades for the STI. As should be expected, the STI retains the Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential controlling three mechanical limited-slip differentials – no electronic fake differentials here.

For the first time on a STI, active torque vectoring will be included, but sadly relies on brake applications to the inside front wheel to help the STI better negotiate a corner. The good news is, the system includes three settings and can be fully turned off.

To mark the beginning of the new model, 1,000 special ‘Launch Edition’ WRX STIs will be created all painted in traditional World Rally Blue Pearl.
