Chevy is taking the new Camaro racing, and the brand has now unveiled the Camaro Z/28.R race car that will run in the GS class of the IMSA Continental Tires SportsCar Challenge.

Chevy claims that the Z/28.R will be one of the most production-based cars in the league, as the car shares aerodynamic components, a massive 7.0-liter V8 engine and axle components with the street going Camaro Z/28. The race car also employs a helical-gear limited-slip rear differential which is also found on the production Camaro Z/28 model.

“Apart from series-mandated equipment and the specialized suspension components needed for endurance racing, the Z/28.R is as close to a production-spec race car as you’ll find,” said Mark Kent, director of racing for Chevrolet.

The car will be campaigned by Stevenson Motorsport and CKA Autosport in the twelve race season that kicks off with the 52nd running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
