Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has revealed that Mercedes-Benz will take the lead in developing and engineering any new vehicle shared with Infiniti.

One of those vehicles is the Infiniti Q30, which was first unveiled in concept form during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and made its North American debut at the LA Auto Show. The Q30 will be underpinned by Mercedes-Benz’s MFA platform, which is also used in the German automaker’s A-Class, B-Class and CLA-Class models.

Zetsche noted that Mercedes will “take the lead on developing any compact car,” since the platform does belong to the German automaker. It is likely that the Q30 won’t be the only Infiniti model that will use the MFA platform as a crossover similar to the GLA could be in the works.
