Land Rover Freelander Replacement Spied With Performance Upgrades

Land Rover is looking to introduce a new family of Discovery branded vehicles, including a small model which we have captured in these spy photos.

Formerly called the Land Rover LR2 Freelander, this new model will not only have a Discovery name-plate, but will probably be at the high-end and sporty side of that vehicle’s range.

Take a look at that huge grille and air-intakes and it’s clear that this vehicle is skewing a bit more performance oriented. Even the wheels have a sporty, low-profile look.

This mule is based on a Range Rover Evoque and there’s some speculation that the new car will feature some design language shared with the more luxurious Range Rover models.

Editor’s note (March 12, 2014): after this story was published, AutoGuide’s spy photographer received new information regarding the vehicle pictured. It may actually be a test mule version of Jaguar’s upcoming SUV.
