Volvo is embracing the idea of scalable architectures, and is already developing the second such platform for the brand.

Known as Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), this new platform will be used for a host of new small cars from Volvo. It is likely to spawn a replacement for the C30, a compact crossover which may be called the XC40 and a new V40 that is reportedly going to grow to the size of a proper station wagon.

Developed in partnership with Geely, Volvo’s Chinese parent company, the CMA platform is also going to be used to underpin Geely automobiles that will be sold in China.
