The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a preliminary safety evaluation on the 2007 Nissan Quest minivan over inaccurate fuel gauge readings.

NHTSA will be taking a look at 37,656 minivans after receiving 12 complaints over the past 14 months that allege the vans stalled because of inaccurate fuel gauges. In at least two cases, the Quest’s fuel gauge indicated more than 70 miles of driving range, when in fact the tank was empty.

A preliminary evaluation is the first step in the recall process. NHTSA says that no accidents of injuries have been reported as a result of this issue.
