Just how innovative is Ford‘s all-new 2015 F-150 pickup? It’s record setting.

The American automaker has announced that the 2015 Ford F-150 features more technology patents and patent applications than any other truck in Ford history. Ford engineers have filed over 100 new patents for technologies on the new pickup from its tailgate step to the LED spotlights found on the side mirrors.

According to Ford, the scope of the patents and applications includes every part of the truck, from its body to its design and engine, in addition to the manufacturing process. The tailgate step for example, has been completely reengineered so it fully integrates into the tailgate and is virtually invisible when it’s not being used. There’s also the BoxLink cargo management system that includes lockable, die-cast aluminum tie-down cleats.

“Ford is teaching the world how to build a next-generation truck, and the more than 100 patents filed by the F-150 team for technologies on the 2015 truck further proves these Ford engineers and designers lead the automotive industry in innovation,” said Alana Strager, Ford program analyst charged with tracking new innovations for the 2015 Ford F-150.
