2014 Mercedes E-Class Named IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been awarded the ‘Top Safety Pick Plus’ accolade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The footwell in the 2014 E-Class has been strengthened compared to last year, helping the car capture a ‘good’ rating (the highest rating possible) in every single category. Add on that the car scored a ‘basic’ rating for its standard collision prevention assist system and a ‘superior’ rating for the optional Pre-Safe Brake system, and the E-Class is sounding like a pretty safe car.
However, there were some small flaws. In a small overlap crash, some lower leg injuries are possible, while the testing also revealed that “the dummy’s head was reasonably controlled by the frontal airbag, but it rotated around and hit the vehicle’s A-pillar because the head and torso moved too far forward.”
