Lexus is planning a contender in the luxury sports coupe category.

While the company has the upcoming RC F to look forward to, rumor has it that a high-performance variant of the production LF-LC could be packing a twin-turbo version of the RC F’s 5.0-liter V8 engine. It was reported earlier that the LF-LC production will kick off in 2016 and will likely head to market as a new SC model for the Japanese automaker.

It is being speculated that the high-performance SC F model will be powered by the twin-turbo V8, though a 600-hp rating could be on the conservative side. The company will also bring a SC H hybrid model with a powertrain that is likely the result of the company’s joint projects with BMW. The hybrid powertrain could sport around 500-hp total system output. Finally the base naturally-aspirated V8 will be less powerful than the hybrid variant with around 450 hp.

As the luxury sports car horsepower war rages on, Lexus will need to pull out all the stops in order to compete.
