Prepare to see new nameplates from Mercedes-Benz.

The German automaker will be updating its nomenclature in hopes of streamlining its model lineup, making it easier for consumers to understand. The company has already simplified one of its offerings, renaming the CL-Class to the S-Class Coupe and more changes will come early next year. First on the list will be the third-generation M-Class, which will get the GLE nameplate while the production Concept Coupe SUV (seen above) will become the GLE Coupe.

In the future, the GLK will become the GLC, bringing its crossover and SUV lineup’s naming to be similar to its coupe and sedan nomenclature. In other words, the GLC will slot between the GLA and GLE, similar to the A-, C- and E-Class models.
