While Honda is gearing up to show off a new version of the Civic Type R at the Paris Motor Show this week, the brand is also out testing prototypes of the car.

Power for this front-drive hot hatch will come from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will crank out at least 280 hp. To make sure it can corner, the Type R will feature a four-corner adaptive damper system which can be controlled by a button on the steering wheel.

According to Suehiro Hasshi, the man leading Civic Type R development, a new +R mode “brings out a more dynamic and athletic car for the driver, to set pulses racing. The difference in character is immense,” he said. “The +R mode is extreme; the car is ideal for track use and will be appreciated by the genuine sports-driving enthusiast.”

Watch for live coverage from the Paris Motor Show to see the updated Civic Type R Concept.
