Porsche revealed today that it will debut a third plug-in hybrid model next week during the Paris Motor Show: the Cayenne S E-Hybrid.
The mid-size luxury SUV will join the Panamera and 918 Spyder to be the third Porsche currently on sale with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and is the first luxury SUV to be offered with such equipment. For the 2015 model year, Porsche is updating the Cayenne with similar styling to the smaller Macan it launched earlier in the year. The company also said it has improved the efficiency of the Cayenne line and enhanced handling.
Equipped with the plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Cayenne will be able to reach 60 mph in 5.4 seconds with a combined 416 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to a permanent all-wheel drive system. The company hasn’t released fuel consumption estimates for the E-Hybrid or any other versions of the 2015 Cayenne yet.
Porsche said nine percent of the Panameras is sold globally through the first eight months of 2014 were equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and that it expects a similarly warm reception for its newest Cayenne. Drivers in the U.S. are even more receptive where Porsche reports a 16 percent take rate for the E-Hybrid model.
