The 2014 Paris Motor Show is in full swing with global automakers revealing all kinds of concept cars and production models in the City of Light. BMW took advantage of the occasion to unveil its new drop-top 2 Series.
This open-air machine will be offered in two flavors, either as a 228i or an M335i. The former is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 240 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The latter features a proper straight six, also with forced induction. It puts out 320 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque.
The six-shooter can accelerate BMW’s drop-top 2 Series to 60 miles an hour from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. The four-banger can sprint to mile-a-minute velocity in a still-impressive 5.7 seconds. Both engines can be paired with either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.
Adding another feature to its cap, the 228i is available with the company’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system for extra traction in foul weather.
The new 2015 BMW 2 Series will make its U.S. debut at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show and is scheduled to go on sale in ‘Murica early next year. Base price for an entry-level 228i is $38,850, including $950 for destination and delivery. The muscular M235i variant kicks off at $48,650.
