Hyundai announced today that total sales of the Elantra compact car are past 10 million worldwide.

On sale since 1990, the Elantra is Hyundai’s first nameplate to reach the milestone. U.S. market vehicles are built at Hyundai’s Montgomery, Ala. assembly plant and are offered in sedan, hatchback and coupe form although the latter (pictured) is being cancelled.

Based on Hyundai’s sales numbers, that means the company has sold an average of 1,100 Elantras every day or over 45 per hour since it went on sale 24 years ago.

There aren’t many nameplates that can lay claim to selling that many copies, but some of the others include the Toyota Corolla at roughly 34 million, Ford’s F-Series pickup truck, the Volkswagen Beetle and Golf and the Honda Civic.
