The all new Jaguar XE Sedan has prowled into Paris, offering us a good look of the entry-level offering that will be hitting dealerships in the near future.

This car, set to take on the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class is setting a priority on its driving dynamics. It’s expected to be lighter than its competition, thanks to extensive use of aluminum in the body. The XE also features the brand’s first electric power assisted steering rack and the eight-speed transmission has been lightened for this application.

2014 Paris Motor Show Coverage

Under the hood will be a range of engines, the one that Jaguar detailed here at the show is the 3.0-liter supercharged V6, which will make 340 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. This puts it on par with the BMW 334i and Audi S4 and Jaguar expects the XK to go from 0-60 MPH in 4.9 seconds.

Of course a true luxury car has a few tricks up its sleeve, in this case the Jag has a number of high-tech features and driver assists, including an all-weather capable cruise control and a new infotainment system.

"You're a day late and a dollar short Jaguar!" While leaps and bounds ahead of the X-type, I really thought this car would look sportier. What a missed opportunity to take the F-type's lead and bring over more design cues. The XE's rear lights are a prime example of how Jaguar seems to have dumbed down this car's design- a big chunky block with no subtle qualities to hold the eye. Again in the interior, the center console is just a series of stacked rectangles that I for one just can't get excited about. 340hp and diesel options sound good but are they enough to pull loyal drivers from ze Germans?! And did you say 2016?! Waiting a whole year for US launch will mean they'll have to deal with an updated A4/S4. Good luck with that.
