Making its North American debut at the 2014 LA Auto Show is the Volkswagen GTI Roadster, a roofless variant of the German hot-hatch.
Originally revealed at this years Worthersee meet, the GTI Roadster is reserved for a digital release in the popular racing video game Gran Turismo.
The sleek looking concept packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that puts out 503 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. That combination is good to send this car to a (digital) 60 mph in an estimated 3.5 seconds. Top speed is rated at 192 mph, while the curb weight is a nice 3,133 lbs.
The GTI Roadster Concept is more than just a hopped up roofless GTI, it features radically different proportions. With a shorter wheelbase than the MK7 GTI this concept also has an overall height of just 42.9 inches.
Despite the open lack of production intent for the GTI Roadster, Volkswagen says both concepts show the “potential for Volkswagen’s design DNA.”
