It was just days ago that the Mercedes GLE was caught testing without any camouflage, and now we have a new set of photos, this time of the go-fast AMG variant.
The GLE is looking to steal sales from the BMW X6, both of which claim to be ‘coupe’ styled crossovers. Our photos reveal the new GLE63 AMG, which has the BMW X6 M directly in its sights.
It is expected to use the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 found in AMG’s new GT sports car. In the standard GT, that engine makes 462 hp, but that bumps up to 510 in the GT S model. To properly compete with the X6 M’s 567 hp, the GLE will likely use the higher output version.
For those of you still wondering what a GLE is, Mercedes recently renamed all of its SUVs and the current M-Class became the GLE. Expect the new GLE to make its official debut in the coming months, possibly at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January.
