The trend of putting info screens throughout our cars is spreading to car keys.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, BMW has revealed a new key fob for its i8 sports car that features a small information screen. Besides providing regular key fob functions (locking, unlocking and remote starting), BWM’s new fob features a 2.2-inch LCD screen that provides info like fuel level information and battery life.
Like a smartphone, the screen can be swiped left or right to reveal more information, like whether or not your doors and windows are closed or whether the car is locked. The fob is powered by a small lithium-ion battery that can be wirelessly charged inside the car.
The key fob with display will be available to i8 buyers from autumn 2015.
