Ford just put all other muscle cars on notice. This is the new Shelby GT350R and it’s going to be the most track capable street car to ever wear the Mustang badge.
Every part of the GT350R is modified to squeeze out as much performance as possible, especially when it comes to aerodynamics, chassis engineering and weight savings. In fact, it will even come standard with carbon fiber wheels.
Taking things a step further, Ford claims that if a part on the car did not make it any faster around a road course, it was considered for deletion. This means things like the air conditioning, the stereo, the rear seats, the trunk carpet, rear-view camera and emergency tire sealer are all gone. Heck, even the exhaust resonators were removed for weight savings with the added benefit of more V8 sound.

That adds up to a savings of 130 pounds for the GT350R over the regular GT350 with the Track Pack. If all this seems too hardcore for your tastes, an optional Electronics Package adds air conditioning, an eight-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker audio system and more.
To further improve performance, the new 5.2-liter flat-plane V8 engine will make more than 500 HP and in excess of 400 lb-ft of torque. An air-to-oil engine oil cooler and standard cooler for the six-speed manual transmission are included to ensure the car can survive heavy track use.
In the back there is a standard limited-slip differential with a 3.73 axle ratio. Suspension upgrades include revised spring rates and antiroll bars, a lower ride height, new track-tuned alignment settings, revised bushings, revised jounce bumpers, cross-axis ball joints in the front suspension and revised MagneRide dampers.
Aside from having those crazy carbon fiber 19-inch wheels, all four wheels will be wrapped in near racing-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that are said to have been specially formulated for the Shelby GT350R.
Aerodynamics have been paid special attention to as well. The GT350R includes underbody belly pans, more aggressive rear diffuser, vented wheel wells, a carbon fiber rear wing and a more aggressive front splitter.
The New Shelby GT350R Mustang will be a limited-production model that will become available later this year.
