Five star ratings were handed to the new Fit in the front and side crash tests while the rollover tests were rated at four stars. Honda says the Fit’s strong performance can be attributed to the its next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which distributes crash energy evenly throughout the car.
The Fit and the Chevy Sonic are the only two subcompact cars to earn a five-star rating from NHTSA. The Fit is also rated as a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, though Honda had to do a last-minute redesign to make sure the car performed well in the small overlap crash test.
