Hyundai is already cold-weather testing its next-generation Equus.

AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers caught the 2017 Hyundai Equus testing at the Arctic Circle with some new German-influenced styling. With the Equus model, Hyundai has been targeting BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8 buyers so it’s no surprise that it is looking to compete on the design level as well. And given how great AutoGuide.com‘s car of the year, the Hyundai Genesis looks, don’t be shocked if the Equus is a stunner when the camouflage is shed.

The next Equus will be riding on a drastically updated version of Hyundai’s BH platform and will take advantage of high strength steel and aluminum to help shed some weight. Under the hood, expect an updated 5.0-liter V8 engine with more performance and better fuel economy with rumors of a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 coming in a mid-cycle refresh in 2019. The sedan will also likely launch initially with an eight-speed automatic transmission with a 10-speed being added in the future.
