Virgin Could Build Tesla-Fighting EV

Tesla may have some new competition coming from a new startup automaker.

Virgin, run by publicity loving Billionaire Richard Branson, is hinting that it may be gearing up to get into the auto business. “We have teams of people working on electric cars,” Branson told Bloomberg. “So you never know—you may find Virgin competing with the Tesla in the car business as we do in the space business. We will see what happens.”

Virgin fields a race car in Formula E, the all-electric race league modeled after Formula 1, meaning that the company already has plenty of experience with EVs.

But Branson knows that he has his work cut out for him, admitting that, “Tesla is as sexy as any other car on the road today.”

It would be cool if they came out with a great looking, 5 passenger sedan that an average person could afford.

Agreed, that would be cool, but if they are going to genuinely compete with Tesla, it would most likely be another luxury EV. Having said that, I'd be perfectly happy with a Nissan Leaf.
