Nevada is the latest state to approve a speed limit increase.

Governor Brian Sandoval has signed a bill that will increase the Nevada speed limit from 75 MPH to 80 MPH effective October 1, 2015. The bill now gives the state Department of Transportation the duty to decide where the new limit will be allowed and the department will weigh the safety hazards before increasing the limit.

Nevada becomes the eighth state to raise its highway speed limit during this legislative session and joins Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and South Dakota to legalize an 80-MPH speed limit. Texas is currently the only state in the U.S. that has a higher speed limit of 85 MPH. As of today, 39 states have speed limits of 70 MPH or higher on some portion of their roadway systems.

There are those that will always go 10-15 mph faster than the posted limits. Car crashes will get bigger, and more people will die. Guess we're not worried about these speeds affect gas mileage anymore...
