General Motors filed three trademark applications for Buick nameplates last month.

The American automaker has trademarked Buick Avenir, Buick Regal Sport Touring and Buick LaCrosse Sport Touring, hinting at future possible models. It’s worth noting that automakers tend to preemptively trademark nameplates to safeguard the future, even if none of these models are bound for production.

The Buick Avenir concept debuted at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, previewing what a Buick flagship sedan model would look like. Recently, GM global product boss Mark Reuss said that the company is still “working” on the Avenir and the possibility of giving it the green light.

As for the Regal Sport Touring and LaCrosse Sport Touring trademarks, they will likely be used as new trim grades for the existing models, if they’re used at all. A redesigned Buick LaCrosse is expected to make its debut later this year or early 2016.
