Most Americans Miss Easy Ways to Save on Car Insurance: Survey
You could be saving money on your auto insurance, simply by asking.
According to a recent survey of 1000 adults in the U.S., only 16 percent of Americans have asked for car insurance discounts, meaning most drivers are missing out on easy ways to save money.
According to insuranceQuotes.com, all of the 10 largest car insurers give good student discounts, but only 21 percent of millenials and 20 percent of the overall population asked for them. In addition, most companies offer an insurance discount for being married but only 13 percent of Americans have let their insurers know that they’re married. Young adults save the most for being married, with a married 20-year-old paying 21 percent less than a single 20-year-old.

Your job can also qualify you for an insurance discount as certain occupations such as being a teacher, nurse or accountant, are seen by insurers as safer drivers. Only eight percent of Americans have asked for the eligible discount based on occupation.
Other aspects that can impact your insurance rates include having no commute or a short commute, paying your renewal bill in advance and having a bachelor’s degree or higher. Driving 5,000 miles annually compared to driving 10,000 miles can result in significant savings depending on where you live. For example, drivers in the state of California see a savings of 16.5 percent by having a shorter commute.
