Audi is testing its new drop-top R8 supercar on European roads and race tracks.

Our spy photographers caught the R8 Spyder out on the Nurburgring with its top closed. As can be expected, the roofline is slightly different thanks to the car’s new soft cloth roof, which adds a new vertical rear windows behind the cabin.

The same 5.2-liter V10 putting out 540 hp will power the Spyder model while a “plus” variant will be offered with 610 hp. The 0 to 60 mph run should be around 3.3 seconds for the Spyder, slightly slower than its coupe counterpart because of the added weight.

Frankfurt could play host for the R8 Spyder’s debut, while next year’s Geneva Motor Show would is another possible debut location.
