Formula E Could Join the Olympics in 2020

Motorsports could be making its way to the 2020 Olympic games.

A recent report says that motorsports are under consideration to be added in time for the 2020 Olympic games. Although details are extremely sparse, it appears that FIA president Jean Todt has proposed Formula E as an event to be part of the Olympics. In a way, Formula E makes sense now that it has completed its inaugural season and would be the ideal environmentally friendly form of motorsports to be promoted at the Olympics. Adding the event wouldn’t be extremely difficult either, with the ability to easily block off some city streets to set up a short track.

Tokyo, Japan, will be hosting the 2020 Olympic games, which could be an ideal location for the introduction of motorsports to the Olympics. Of course, there are some details that would require a lot of clearing up, including how teams would be fielded and what countries would be allowed to compete. Then again, this isn’t the first time someone has pitched motorsports to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and before we get too excited, just remember this is simply FIA pitching the idea.
