The Bentley Continental is being recalled for a potential fire hazard.

Not even luxury sports coupes are immune to possible flaws as Bentley is recalling 7,778 of its vehicles including the 2012-2014 Continental GT, 2012-2015 Continental GTC and the 2012-2014 Flying Spur. The British automaker completed a vehicle fire investigation last April and found that a loose battery cable connection was the culprit. The issue was traced back to a bolted connection where the cable passes through the front bulkhead.

According to Bentley, the safety risk is increased if the battery is significantly discharged and the vehicle is operating under increased load. Although it is only in “rare cases,” the issue could potentially create enough heat to start a vehicle fire.

Affected owners will be able to take their vehicles to a dealership so that service technicians can replace the battery-cable securing nut to resolve the issue and prevent overheating.
