Poll: MINI Cooper S or Ford Fiesta ST?

If you were in the market for high performance in a small package, which model would you choose, a MINI Cooper S or the Ford Fiesta ST?

The MINI Hardtop in this poll features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s good for 189 horses and 207 lb-ft of maximum torque. When equipped with a manual transmission, that’s enough secret sauce to give you 60 miles an hour in a claimed 6.4 seconds.

By comparison, Ford’s feisty Fiesta features a 1.6-liter EcoBoost ‘banger. This little propulsion unit may be significantly down on displacement compared to the MINI, but that’s not reflected in its output figures. It delivers 197 horsepower and 202 lb-ft of twist. A six-speed manual — the only transmission offered — sends power to the front wheels.

BUT FIRST: Compare these two cars side by side

It's not just the numbers that matter. Having driven both, the Mini certainly feels quicker, more solid and IMHO handles just that bit better. The Ford has lots of toys as standard, but you can see the where the money's been cut back. It's too emotive an issue though, as I'm sure Skoda are just as quick - but would you even consider driving one?
