With the new E-Class sedan freshly revealed, Mercedes is preparing to grow the family.
This is the new E-Class Coupe, caught testing by spy photographers undergoing some winter testing in Sweden. With two less doors in the back, the coupe has a more raked roofline, giving it an aggressive look, although styling up front on the nose appears to be very close to that found on the new sedan. A new large rear lip spoiler is also seen on this test car.
Not surprisingly the coupe will share its powertrain options with the sedan, which means a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque will likely be standard. Though other options haven’t been confirmed, a larger turbocharged V6 will probably be available along with a plug-in hybrid model. The current E-Class Coupe doesn’t have a high-performance AMG model, but this could change with this generation.
Other amenities, such as a massive 12.3-inch widescreen display, touch-sensitive steering-wheel buttons, handwriting recognition and a simplified infotainment system will also be offered in the E-Class Coupe.
Expect the coupe to be revealed sometime in 2017 as a 2018 model.
