Someone Tried to Put a Deposit on a Mazda RX Vision and Actually Got a Response

Someone emailed Mazda about putting down a deposit on the sexy RX Vision and the Japanese automaker actually responded to this hopelessly optimistic soul.

Rumors of an upcoming rotary-powered Mazda have been getting fanboys all excited, but the chances of one becoming a reality in the near future are slim. Mazda recently said that it will build a new RX if people will buy it, but the company is trying to avoid another RX-8, which performed terribly in the sales department.

The concept pictured here debuted in Japan last year and was named the Most Beautiful Concept of the Year. The rear-drive, rotary-powered sports car concept recently made a stop at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D’Este in Italy, where it got a lot of attention despite being surrounded by Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and other rare exotics.

In Mazda’s emailed response, it said that the company continues to develop a rotary engine, but that it has no plans to produce one yet. Mazda’s struggle is likely trying to engineer a new rotary engine to be more fuel efficient without sacrificing performance.

Here was Mazda’s official response to the Reddit user who tried to make a deposit on the RX Vision:

We appreciate your interest in a future Mazda RX model and while we can confirm that Mazda continues to develop rotary engines, we cannot confirm production of a rotary at this point. Rotaries are one of the signature engineering technologies that define Mazda, and we will continue exploring them to see where they may fit for production applications. While mass production is currently on hold, Mazda has never stopped research and development efforts towards the rotary engine.

RX-VISION represents a vision of the future that Mazda hopes to one day make into reality; a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car with exquisite, KODO design-based proportions only Mazda could envision, and powered by the next-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine.
