Tesla has yet to sign off on the final design for the Model 3 which is supposed to hit the market before the end of 2017.

That’s not the only obstacle standing in the way of the Model 3 launch as the company is working to expand its manufacturing facility in Fremont, Calif., and is still finding suppliers to build certain parts of the Model 3.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that the final engineering decisions will be made within six to nine weeks.

Building the Model 3 will be Tesla’s first taste at mass production, with the brand aiming to build 500,000 units of the car before the end of 2018. Tesla also has at least 325,000 reservations for the car, each one of which came with a fully refundable $1,000 deposit.

In the past, Tesla has missed major production deadlines on both the Model S and Model X, caused by supply and quality issues.
