Mercedes is plotting a convertible version of its new sports car, the AMG GT.

“The convertible has moved well beyond the drawing board,” AMG boss Tobias Moers said to Auto Express. “It will be the next AMG GT model to arrive.” When it arrives, the AMG GT Convertible will use a soft top roof to keep both the weight and complexity down. Timing for the new model is unknown, though Moers hinted at a debut before the end of 2016.

Power for the convertible will remain the same as the coupe, offering a 456-horsepower base model or the 503-hp GT S variant. Both cars get power from a Biturbo 4.0-liter V8.

Besides a convertible, Mercedes-AMG is potting a Black Series variant of the GT which will be lighter and faster, though it likely won’t arrive until near the end of the first-generation GT’s life cycle. A GT4 race car based on the AMG GT is also said to be in development.
