What should have been an exhilarating ride for Jay Leno in a 2500-horsepower Hemi Under Glass drag racer turned scary quickly.

Drag racing legend Bob Riggle took Leno along for a ride in the car for the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, but things didn’t go according to plan.

It seems from the video that Riggle realized that he was running out of space on the road ahead, so he tried to cut the wheel to avoid the wall. The uneven track surface also led to some bouncing from the back end of the car, causing loss of traction. Combine all of these factors and you end up with a roll over.

As you can see in the video, neither Leno or Riggle were hurt, but the same can’t be said for the car. While the roll cage and safety equipment worked well, the body took a beating.

Watch the entire video to learn more about the Hemi Under Glass drag race car, or if you’re here for the action, skip to the three-minute mark.

Pretty tough car...they built em with real steel back in the day...just think what one of these plastic cars they have now would look like if it rolled like that!
