It’s no longer a rumor: Mercedes-AMG is producing a hypercar to compete with the likes of the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918.
The german brand announced the news at an event the night before the 2016 Paris Motor Show, showing off a sketch of the new hypercar to the audience that can be seen above.
The best part of the announcement? The new hypercar will use some version of the 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 powerplant found in the brand’s F1 cars mixed with an electric motor, giving it in the neighborhood of 1,000 horsepower combined. Also like the F1 car, the road-going hypercar will be able to gather energy using the brakes.
Mercedes said during the announcement that the car will be the most efficient and best performing AMG of all time. Both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, both of Mercedes’ F1 drivers, will be consulted on the car to make sure it is a great performer.
The new AMG hypercar is about two years away according to the brand and will look to compete with the F1-inspired Aston Martin hypercar that is also in development.
