2017 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Revealed and Ready To Race

Among the news in Paris, Porsche also announced its new GT3 Cup racer that will hit the track for the 2017 motorsports season.

Featuring a redeveloped powertrain, enhanced efficiency, and more safety enhancements, the new 911 GT3 Cup car looks race ready for next years Porsche GT3 Supercup series.

Housed in the back of the race car is a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine. Known as a Boxer engine, this motor will make a whopping 485-hp that’s sent to the rear wheels. That powerplant when paired the GT3 Cup car’s unbelievably low weight of just 2,645.5 pounds means that this car will be a blur down the straight of your favorite race tracks.

To keep the car stable at high speeds, Porsche has modified the body work at front and rear of the car, improving aerodynamics. The extra downforce is essential for traction and performance. The big rear-wing is the same size as the outgoing model, as are the wheel dimensions.

In line with the latest FIA safety standards, the car features a larger rescue hatch in the roof, along with an innovative, bucket-style racing seat that features specially molded areas around the head and shoulder.

Porsche says that around 3,031 911 GT3 Cup were built since 1998 making it the most-produced and most-sold GT racing car in the world. While the car will be used in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama, the car will be eligible for other series like the Pirelli World Challenge GT in 2018.

Pricing for the new model comes in at $220,000.
