The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a preliminary investigation into a group of 155,000 Nissan Versa vehicles over complaints that the airbags have been deploying inadvertently.

Based on the complaints on the NHTSA database, the driver or passenger side curtain can deploy when the door is closed in a “possibly aggressive manner,” according to NHTSA.

“The company has received an inquiry from NHTSA concerning the MY2012 Nissan Versa Sedan,” said a Nissan spokesperson. “Nissan is actively investigating this issue and, as always, working cooperatively with the regulators to answer their questions.”

No injuries have been reported as a result of this problem.

If the issue is found to be systemic, NHTSA may order a recall of these vehicles.
