FCA Recalling Nearly 90K Vehicles

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced two separate recalls affecting a total of 88,888 vehicles worldwide.

The first recall affects 34,633 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from the 2016 model year. In those affected vehicles there is a potential for a fuel leak issue, with 30,183 vehicles in the U.S., 2,534 in Canada, 489 in Mexico and 1,427 units elsewhere in the world. According to a statement issued by FCA, the vehicles’ fuel rail crossover tube and manifold fastener could make “inadvertent contact” due to a manufacturing error. As a result, there could be a fuel leak and a subsequent fire. The recall only impacts SUVs equipped with a 3.6-liter engine assembled at FCA’s Saltillo, Mexico assembly plant between February and April.

The automaker estimates about 30 of the SUVs have the problem and will begin notifying dealers and owners “on or about” December 19. Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace parts as necessary. FCA is unaware of any field reports or complaints related to the issue and there have been no injuries reported.

The second recall affects the 2016 Dodge Dart and 54,255 units are impacted. The recall is due to an electrical problem that could prevent the windshield wipers from operating. The company reviewed warranty data and found that some of the pumps’ electrical connections do not comply with specifications, causing voltage spikes that could prevent the wipers from working. It has received 17 customer complaints and four field reports related to the issue, but no injuries or accidents. Of the affected vehicles, 53,155 are in the U.S., 1,057 in Canada and 43 in Mexico.

Dealers will replace the pump at no cost and the recall is expected to also begin on December 19.
