Upcoming Supercar Will Have a 600-HP V8 and a Lot of Carbon Fiber

The Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo by Pininfarina will have more than 600 horsepower.

The supercar was initially teased earlier this month and now another teaser image has been released, giving a preview of the front end. Making its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the supercar is the result of a collaboration between Brazilian race car driver Emerson Fittipaldi, Italian design house Pininfarina, and German motorsports and engineering firm HWA.

Fittipaldi also released some details on the project, saying it will be powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine with more than 600 hp. It will also be mounted low in the car to lower the center of gravity. To keep it lightweight, carbon fiber has been used on both the body and the internal monocoque structure, helping tip the scales around 2,200 pounds.

Fittipaldi focused on more than just performance and weight. He stressed that carbon fiber was also used for its protective ability, with the two-time Formula 1 champ saying he wanted the car to be “forgiving and safe for drivers of all skill levels.”

Although he didn’t say where the powertrain will be sourced from, he did add that both the engine and transmission will come from the same source. Fittipaldi wants to ensure “minimal mechanic and tech teams” are needed to service the car at a track.

For now, the Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo by Pininfarina will only be available virtually in Gran Turismo, but it does appear some units will be produced for the real world.
