Mercedes-AMG Could Have a 400-HP 4-Cylinder Engine in the Works
The next-generation Mercedes-AMG CLA45 could arrive with 400 horsepower.
When the CLA45 was first introduced in North America, it boasted the world’s most powerful production four-cylinder engine. Since then, the German automaker has tweaked the powerplant to offer 375 hp, but even more performance could be on the way. Speaking to CarAdvice, AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed there’s an all-new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in development and acknowledged it would have more than 400 hp (300 kW).

Although Moers wouldn’t go into specifics, he did say the next-generation A-Class is “still a little while away.” Since the CLA is based on the A-Class, don’t expect to see the next-generation CLA until the A-Class debuts in Europe.
Most interesting is that Moers wouldn’t shy away from the idea of using an electric turbo to boost performance, but it wouldn’t be in the first version of the engine.
