Watch the C7 Corvette Z06 Turn in a Blistering Nurburgring Lap
Chevrolet has never sent the C7 Corvette Z06 around the Nurburgring on a timed lap, but a German magazine has now taken it upon themselves to see how fast America’s supercar can lap the Green Hell.
The folks over at Sport Auto recently turned in a blistering 7 minute and 14 second loop of the Green Hell using a Z06 equipped with GM’s seven-speed manual gearbox.
Truthfully, the lap raises more questions than it answers. How much faster could the car go with someone like Corvette dynamics engineer and all around hot shoe Jim Mero at the helm; could the car have shaved a few more seconds off its lap with the 8-speed auto box installed; and lastly, does this mean the ZR1 is capable of turning in a sub-seven-minute time?

Regardless, the Chevrolet Corvette now takes back the GM Performance crown after unofficially beating the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE’s 7:16.
To put the lap time in context, this is the third fastest lap time Sport Auto has ever turned on the Nurburgring, behind Christian Gebhardt’s 7:10 in a AMG GT R and editor-in-chief Horst von Saurma’s 7:13 using a Porsche 918, but neither the Porsche nor the Mercedes requires its driver to row the gears themselves.

The Viper ACR just ran a 7:03 on its first test lap there.
This Z06 was fast but I saw the shifting of the manual trans was quite slow wasting precious time. I would like to see an automatic trans Z06 on the track. I would believe 7:10 would be easily achievable with a more proficient driver.
