Tesla Wants to Give Its Next-Gen Roadster Away for Free

With the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X now defining the brand, it’s weird to look back at the Lotus-based Tesla Roadster knowing the little two-seater is what kicked off the Tesla craze.

The electric automaker may no longer build a sportscar, but that doesn’t mean the brand has abandoned the body style. Elon Musk has said in the past the company would like to bring a second-generation Roadster to market, and according to a new report, some owners may be able to get it for free.

Tesla currently offers free unlimited charging to owners who refer new customers to Tesla with their personal referral code. Previously, once an owner’s referral code was used 5 times, they were notified through the Tesla Loot Box app that manages the program that their code had reached the maximum number of uses. That was until this week, when Tesla enthusiast channel Like Tesla opened their Loot Box app to the following paragraph:

“You’ve unlocked the first secret level. Refer 5 more friends for the ability to purchase a Founder’s Series next gen Roadster at a 10% discount. Unlock new levels with every 5 referrals for an additional 2% off per referral and amazing adventures that money can’t buy.”

Based off that statement, any Tesla owner who refers 50 or more sales will be qualified for a free ‘Founder’s Series’ next-generation Roadster. Not much is known about Tesla’s plans for its new sportscar, but Musk has said previously he’d like it to be Tesla’s fastest-accelerating model to date. Considering the Model S P100D clocks the 0-60 run in 2.4 seconds, it seems as though the roadster may crack the 2-second barrier.

Do you guys not know how to do basic math word problems? 10 referrals = 10% off. Every 5 referrals after = 2% off. An additional 40 referrals divided by 5 = 8 tiers. 8 tiers = 16%. A total of 50 referrals would get you 26% off.
